You will travel to Port-Vendres in the south of France. The OOSTERSCHELDE will be waiting for you in port. The crew will welcome you on board and show you to your cabin. The captain will give an introduction about the ship, the safety rules and the plans for the coming voyage. After dinner, you will have time to take a look around in Port-Vendres. We will depart the next morning. The whole group will be divided into watches and you will be part of the crew for the rest of the trip. The professional crew will help you to get to know the ship and will provide as much information as you like. You will have enough time to relax, aside of the watches. There is always a quiet corner to read a good book, keep your logbook up to date, listen to music or to play a game. During this trip we hope to enjoy the warmth of the spring sun and lovely sailing weather. After leaving the harbour, we will set course south. We have enough time during this trip for a few stops. It is up to the captain to decide when and where we will make stops, this will depend on the weather forecast. Anchor in a bay at Ibiza is a possibility. But if the wind is favourable, we might sail between the Balearic Islands and the mainland along the Spanish Costa’s to Gibraltar. Gibraltar is a special place. The famous rock marks the border between Africa and Europe. On the Atlantic our first ‘waypoint’ is Cabo de São Vicente. If there is a strong northern wind along the Portuguese coast, we might make a stop in the Algarve, in Portimão. After rounding Cabo de São Vicente, we will head north. Gannets, dolphins and other sea life will accompany us on this Atlantic leg. Ten days after our departure we will drop our anchor in Cascais. If we are in time and if we have clearance, we might be able to sail up the Tagus to the old city of Lisbon. If this is not possible, we will have to go over land to visit this beautiful city.
This description is meant to give you an impression of how a voyage could look like. Depending on wind and weather conditions the travel plan could be altered, however we always try to sail as much as possible. It is not mandatory, but we invite everyone to participate in the watches and to help sail, steer and navigate the ship.
