This is where the 11-day voyages start and end. The island Sal is desert-like, with miles-long sand beaches. For hundreds of years the island was known for the production of salt, from which it takes its name. Over the past few years the island has gotten more and more popular amongst sun and beach seekers and the wind attracs wind and kite surfers from all over the world. Upon arrival the ‘Oosterschelde’ is waiting for you, anchored in the bay of Palmeira. Palmeira is a rustic town where you will find few tourists so if you would want to spend a few days before or after the voyage on the island we recommend booking accommodation in Santa Maria. This fisher’s village Santa Maria on the south side of the island is where the most hotels and restaurants are located.
