This voyage will focus on Icelands Nature reserve Hornstrandir in the North West of Iceland. Isafjordur is based at the foot of the Nature Reserve and is the last place where you can fly into to easily reach Hornstrandir. Hornstrandir does not have any roads and the only way you can get to its heart is by boat.
If possible this voyage will take you out to the open water to sail around, with a possible stop in Adelvik bay, to get to Hornvik. Here the Tecla will drop anchor and you will be dropped on shore for one of the best walks to be had in Iceland. Stepping onto the beach the hight of the cliffs will amaze you, but once you are on top of the cliffs, it will truly be spectacular! Gazing down, seeing the birdlife on the rocks, is an amazing feeling.
In June summer will start to set all the flowers in bloom. The green grass fields will be filled with wild flowers. Yellow, white and purple will really give you a springtime feeling. In-between the flower, the cups of the Arctic Fox are hiding, or more relaxing. As they do not see humans as a thread, they are approachable and not shy at all. Other amazing places that are possible stop overs are Hesteyri, with its old herring factory. Hrafnasfjordur with a walk up to an ice-lake. Or Veidilysufjordur where you will be surrounded by waterfalls and amazing views!
As this voyage is only a week long, the stops will depend on wind and weather.
Traveling to Isafjordur is best done by plane or car. You can rent a car in Reykjavik and leave it in Isafjordur. Or there are two flights per day to Isafjordur. Getting there early will give you the opportunity to discover a little more in town or even go kayaking!
